Acura was founded in 1986 by Honda Motor Co and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. At first Acura supplied cars to the US, Canada, and Hong Kong. It has now expanded to include mainland China, Mexico, Russia, and has announced plans to move into the Japanese Domestic Market in 2010.
Acura’s early success revolved around the performance market; the Acura NSX and the Acura Integra quickly became favourites among enthusiasts. Acura knew the key to selling the NSX in the North American market was to prove it was capable at the highest levels of competition. Teaming with companies such as CompTech to enter the NSX at several events, Acura took victories in their inaugural season in the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring.
After 2000 Acura’s focus shifted somewhat, and their best selling vehicles of the new millenium have been in the luxury market - the MDX, TL, and TSX - autos which focus on being user friendly and luxurious, as well as making standard many features that are optional on competitive models.
